Pieces
of Eight is an all-amputee
skydiving team. Everyone who
is a part of the team is missing at least one
of their limbs and/or an eye.
I
joined Pieces of Eight in 2001 but have
been a skydiver since 1997. The people who make
up Pieces of Eight are a wonderful group
with a fabulous outlook on life. I feel so privileged
to be a part of it. The camaraderie is fantastic.

This
past October we tried to break the old world record
(of 14) with a 17-way. Although we all had a blast,
we were unable to accomplish the task. When you
put together a group of people in the sky with different
appendages missing and different skill levels, it
creates additional "issues" which makes
for more interesting diving. Just deciding where
to place each person in the formation, keeping in
mind their missing part, is a challenge all its
own. We all go at it with an upbeat attitude and
work with each skydive as it plays out.
